Redeye
We are running all servers with the windows firewall. It works but, I'm wondering, which alernatives are used with the other gamehosters? I know, most don't want to talk about this section because of security policies, but still hoping some want to share.
ECF
Your best option is a harware firewall as it will not draw any resources from the server(s).
maddanny
Yes but hw firewalls are harder to manage from TCAdmin Except if you block unwanted services only (135 & friends) but i dont like this way.
alex
If you are running just game servers, a hardware firewall is absolutely unnecessary.
ECF
Windows firewall is the best solution for a software firewall. Installing another software firewall on your box would simply draw more resources. The hardware firewall is the best way to go as I stated above, but is a lot of work to keep up with.
DougK94
Either windows firewall or for better control use IPSEC.

HIS-MOTHER
did that, unblocked tcp and udp 21/22 but still cant connect from my computer to the server. List problems. Do you have the new security in place and is your IP in the allow list?
scroll
i cant put my ip in the allow list, i have dynamic ip every time we connect our IP is different. This is not our IP issue because i can connect i just cant see the files and folders on the ftp client.
HIS-MOTHER
Login to FTP via CMD prompt and get a directory listing thru that. If it can poll the directory try a different client or check your settings on the client. If it can't poll then you might have some firewall or other issues. ECF
Remember that FTP use either active or passive (pasv) connections. If your FTP is set top use active connections it will connect to the FTP server but the FTp will open another random port somewhere in the 65000 range to allow data transfers. You may want to change your FTP settings to pasv, which only requires port 21 to be open.
